Central Drug Research Institute

Central Drug Research Institute, popularly known as CDRI, is a leading research avenue in the city. It was established in the year 1951 on 17th of February. The organization was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.

It is one of the first research institutes to be established in the country after Independence and since then has been contributing productively in the field of drug research and development. It has publication of 10,000 plus, peer reviewed journals to its credit and has awarded more than 100 Ph.D’s. CDRI is a promising research avenue with modern and advanced drug research.

 

National Botanical Research Institute

The National Botanical Research Institute, commonly known as NBRI is a multi-disciplinary, premier research institute in the field of plant research and study. It was established originally as a National Botanic Gardens by the Uttar Pradesh State Government and was taken over by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). It was renamed as NBRI in the year 1978. It is housing well-equipped and advanced laboratories for Research and Development (R&D) in the vast field of plant research. It also has a Botanic Garden having enormous collection of varied species of plants, herbs, shrubs and trees. NBRI also has two field research stations at Banthara on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway. It is a leading institute in research relating to plant science.

 

Indian Institute of Toxicology and Research

Another leading research avenue in the city is the Indian Institute of Toxicology and Research, generally known as IITR. The organization was previously known as Industrial Toxicology and Research Centre (ITRC) but was later renamed. It came into existence in the year 1965 and is actively engaged in the research in the field of Fundamental and Applied Toxicology. It offers encouraging research options to students.

 

Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

Another important research institute is the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, popularly known as CIMAP. More than 50 years old, this research institute has research avenues in biological and chemical sciences. It helps the farmers and entrepreneurs of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) with technologies and services. For nurturing young minds, CIMAP has entered into MoUs with numerous renowned universities like JNU, BHU, and University of Allahabad among others.

 

Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research

The Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research is a leading research institute in Lucknow and was established in the year 1952. It conducts research on various fundamental and applied aspects of sugarcane culture. It also co-ordinates the research work done on sugarcane by the various states of the country. It aids in advancement of sugarcane agriculture in all the aspects ranging from productivity, quality, management, and processing related issues, in India.

 

National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources

The National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources is research organization that aims at preserving and cataloguing the aquatic biodiversity of the country. It was established in the year 1983 and is generally known as NBFGR. Since its inception, it has been instrumental in the field of research relating to the aquatic bio resources in India.

 

Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany

The Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany was established in the year 1956 and is an autonomous Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi. The organization is engaged in research related to the fundamental and applied aspects of plant fossils. It offers good research prospects to students in the field of Paleobotany.

 

Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture

The Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture was initially established as Central Mango Research Station on September 4, 1972 and was graduated to a Research Institute in the year 1984. It conducts research on numerous characteristics of the Subtropical fruits such as Mango, Guava, Litchi, and Papaya and so on. It has promising opportunities in the field of research and training and has also entered into MoUs with various universities.
