Rahgir – A Solo Traveller with a Cause
Rahgir is how Sunil Kumar Gurjar loves to be called as he travels around the country to propagate the message of love and peace. A self-taught singer who is just about 24-year-old gave up his lucrative job at a leading IT multi-national in Pune to pursue his dream journey to create awareness about a lot of social issues in India.
In a short but interesting meeting with Lucknow Pulse, Rahgir shared his experiences from his journey so far and recited some of his soulful poetry. The idea of travelling across the land dawned to him when people started appreciating his poetry, writing and singing skills. He decided to pack bags and set off to unknown places through less-taken roads and meet lots of people, tell them some of what he thought, learn from them and put it back in poetry that goes with him to the future destinations.
Rahgir doesn’t make plans about where to go, stay and how long to be there. He just loves to go by the flow while trying to follow a broad-based goal and vision. When asked about how does he manage his expenses, he said he had very little needs and they could be met from his Musical performances at schools, cafes or public places. He prefers visiting old age homes, widow homes, orphanages and any such places where he gets an opportunity to lift up spirits, motivate, and console people through his poetry and music.
Rahgir hails from a small town near Jaipur, Rajasthan and In his first solo musical journey, he covered 9 states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar. He is currently in Uttar Pradesh. His father is serving Indian army and after initial reservations, he is supporting Rahgir in his mission. Rahgir has also got a small sponsorship from an organization to support his travelling expenses.
With the world so set on tearing itself apart, it doesn’t seem like such a bad thing to me to want to put a little bit of it back together. I believe in this philosophy of Desmond Doss.
