Welcoming IBM’s foray into the state, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath highlighted the strategic significance of the move. He said, “The new Software Lab in Lucknow will play a pivotal role in the state’s economic growth through job creation and the engagement of local talent. It will accelerate AI-driven innovation and use cases that enhance productivity, efficiency and improve citizen services. We plan to develop Lucknow as an AI city and position it as a hub for nurturing talent, fostering ideas and an AI ecosystem.”
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting IBM in setting up the lab and emphasized that the initiative will give a shape to our vision of boosting the technology sector in Uttar Pradesh, upskilling the youth workforce, and making it useful to the Nation’s growth.
Innovate in India – IBM’s Commitment
Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India and South Asia, emphasized that this expansion is in line with IBM’s “Innovate in India” commitment. According to an IBM press release, he said, “The expansion of IBM’s Software Lab in Uttar Pradesh is a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to ‘Innovate in India’ for India and the world. India’s ‘Naya Daur’ will be driven by technology, talent, and a dynamic ecosystem that promotes creativity and innovation to foster progress.”
Mr. Patel seemed confident that the Lucknow Software Lab will utilize the local IT talent graduating from the regional engineering col region’s skilled professionals to drive AI innovation, build digital capabilities, and contribute meaningfully to India’s evolving tech landscape.
Nurturing Talent and Fueling Innovation
Adding to the vision, Vishal Chahal, Vice President, IBM India Software Labs, also laid emphasis on the importance of Industry-Academia collaboration. He revealed the plan stating—“Innovation will be the key driver of disruption, and Lucknow is emerging as a vibrant hub with the right talent and ecosystem to fuel this transformation. Strategic collaboration between the government, industry, and academia supported by forward-looking policies and robust infrastructure will further strengthen its position in the technology landscape.”
He further added that IBM Software Lab in Lucknow would go on to play an instrumental role in enabling the Uttar Pradesh state government’s initiatives to use AI initiatives in governance too.

The new lab will be a part of the IBM India Software Labs (ISL) network, which currently operates out of Bengaluru, Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar, Kochi, Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
