Origination and Establishment

The Dudhwa National Park is a wild life park located in the zone of Sub-Himalayan region known as Terai belt. It was first established as a wildlife sanctuary for swamp deer in the year 1958 and was later declared as a National Park in January, 1977.

It is a very magnanimous green spread covering an area of approximately 680 sq. km, including the buffer zone equivalent to an area of approximately 190 sq.km. It is situated on the Indo-Nepal border in the Lakhimpur Kheri District in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Dudhwa National Park is one of the highly varied and productive Terai ecological units and serves as a happy abode to both flora and fauna including endangered species,obligate species of tall wet grasslands,and species of restricted distribution. It was brought under the “Project Tiger” and declared a Tiger Reserve in the year 1987.

The Dudhwa National Park along with Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and Katarniaghat Wildlife sanctuary forms the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.The national park is one of the major wildlife preservation and conservation centres in India and is a delight for conservationists, ecologists, nature buffs, and animal lovers. It is a marvellous, vast expanse of natural habitat that remains undisturbed by human activity and helps to maintain the ecological balance and biodiversity, supports agriculture,and on a wider perspective influences the climatic conditions.
